Why You Should Go To Cuba Right Now
Cuba has attracted tourists for many years with its warm climate, charming beaches and the famous combination of quality rum and elite cigars. Holidays in Cuba have never been too cheap, however, apparently, in the near future, a rise in price is coming. Let’s remember other reasons, besides the relatively low prices within the country, in order to finally decide on a trip.
· Open-air museum
We all know at least by hearsay about the famous Cuban revolutionaries: Jose Martí, Che Guevara, Fidel Castro. And although the influence of these people is already weakly felt, everything around looks as if the revolution took place just a couple of years ago. Although, in fact, there have been no clashes and uprisings on Cuban soil for a long time.
Once in Cuba, you will feel as if you were back in the Soviet Union, only everyone around you speaks Spanish. Cubans here cherish and do not change anything for decades: retro cars drive through the streets, which we can find now only in museums, the selection of goods is still limited on the shelves, and sometimes even signs are left over from the sixties.
· Rum and cigars
And this is the real treasure and pride of Cuba. The selection of cigars is incredibly large. The prices are very different and depend on the quality of the tobacco, as well as the aging – the older, the “tastier”. There are cigars – the same age as the revolution, and many hunters for such historically valuable things are ready to pay up to $ 100 apiece. Locals claim that the best cigars are curled on the bodies of incomparable Cuban beauties. The fact is not confirmed, but so piquant that I want to take my word for it.
Rum is not inferior in quality. Its choice is also great and varied, and you can not only taste the drink, but also go on an excursion to the factories of world famous alcohol brands. You can export any amount of rum and cigars from the country, but remember that the import of these products to some coutries is limited.
· No visa required
Fortunately, Cuba is one of the few countries with a gorgeous beach holiday where you can go without a visa ( for some coutries, it is required ). It will have to be done only if you plan to stay there for more than thirty days.
· Unusual types of meat
One of the most popular and cheapest meat dishes in Cuban restaurants is crocodile meat. There are special farms for growing crocodiles in huge numbers. The most delicious parts are the legs and tail. Crocodiles are cooked in different ways: fried, boiled, steamed, stewed. In some places you can taste turtle dishes. Turtles are endangered here, so it is officially forbidden to cook them, but this does not stop some gourmets.
But what you definitely can’t eat is a beef steak. Killing and eating cows in Cuba is a serious crime, even if it’s your own animal.
· Free beaches and pleasant climate
Since the Cuban Communist Party is diligently building socialism, most of the beaches (unless they belong to hotels) are state-owned, which means they are free. At the same time, they look just gorgeous. And the climate does not fail: in summer the temperature here is about +28 degrees, and in winter it is comfortable +22. However, the tropical climate has several disadvantages. So, with a relatively low heat, there is high humidity all year round, therefore, sometimes acclimatization occurs with some difficulties in a person who is not adapted to such weather.
You can come to rest in Cuba all year round, but there is also a seasonality here. The rainy season lasts from May to October. The temperature at this time is just as comfortable, but much more precipitation falls – about three quarters of the annual rate. During the tropical season, from November to April, it rains much less frequently. The worst months to visit the island are October and November, as hurricanes are possible during this time.
· Entertainment and attractions
In Havana, be sure to check out the Capitol, which almost completely repeats the famous Capitol in Washington. The Cathedral is also interesting, which, together with the area around it, is included in the UNESCO cultural heritage list. This massive 18th century Baroque building housed the ashes of the man who discovered America, Christopher Columbus, for over a hundred years. However, at the end of the 19th century, he was taken to the Spanish Seville.
Old Havana, the historical center of the city, is also included in the UNESCO list. There are more than a thousand valuable objects here, and the center itself is impressive in size. Naturally, this is the most popular place among tourists in the city, so you should be careful, especially with street photographers who will try to photograph you, and then will strongly demand money for this, even if you did not give your consent.
If you want to see the natural beauty, you can do it in the Sierra Maestra National Park. It is located on the southern coast of the Caribbean Sea, on a mountain range. Here is the highest point of the Freedom Island – Mount Pico-Turkino. In the park, you can relax on a secluded beach, climb a mountain and enjoy the amazing scenery. You can enter the park as part of an excursion group, and if you want to get there on your own, you will need a special permit.
